FIA ENVIRONMENTAL ACCREDITATION PROGRAMME

RED BULL RING AWARDED THREE STARS FOR SUSTAINABILITY

As operator of the best-known race track in Austria and as the long-standing organiser of the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich“, the Red Bull Ring has sought to extend its already high credentials in motorsport to the areas of sustainability and environmental protection. The Red Bull Ring was recently awarded Three-Star Level – Best practice certification, the highest possible rating within the framework of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme.

Three stars for sustainable thinking and action.

The award of this 3-star accreditation requires evidence of best practice and a commitment to continuous improvement in the form of an environmental management system. The clearly defined guidelines of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme are based on recognised standards such as ISO 14001 and comprise no fewer than 17 criteria, including the training and sensitisation of employees for the careful use of resources as well as guidelines with regard to recycling.

Sustainable travel offers

The Red Bull Ring proactively takes responsibility for the preservation of our natural surroundings. Since 2014, we have been promoting the slogan ‘Nimm’s Radl’ (Come by bike) to members of the public who attend events at Spielberg. This was supplemented in 2022 by the new slogan ‘Nimm’s Shuttle’ (Come by shuttle bus). In addition to regional shuttles for motorsport fans attending this year’s Formula 1 race weekend, we will also be laying on long-distance shuttles with more than 170 pick-up points in six provinces. In addition to bike and bus, our sustainable travel offer includes numerous train connections. Free shuttle buses will be available between Knittelfeld station and the Red Bull Ring. Taken in combination, these measures will not only help to prevent traffic jams but also to reduce CO2 emissions.

The Red Bull Ring Sustainability Policy.

“Environmental protection, careful use of resources and responsible management are central prerequisites for a sustainable society,” says Erich Wolf, General Manager of the Red Bull Ring. “This includes the reduction and avoidance of environmental pollution such as excessive energy and water consumption, emissions and waste.” The efforts already being made by the GP circuit are set out in the company’s own Sustainability Policy. This policy also applies to suppliers and business partners of the Red Bull Ring.

Environmental management and green initiatives.

In implementing its Environmental Accreditation Programme, the FIA pursues the goal of encouraging all the key players in motorsport and in the mobility sector to continuously monitor their environmental management, to improve it in a targeted manner and to implement measures for the protection of the environment. FIA Accreditation is reviewed and renewed every two years.
