In the first MotoGP free practice session for the Michelin® Grand Prix of Styria 2021, Honda racer Takaaki Nakagami of Japan claimed the best lap time. With the track still dry, his 1:23.805 minutes was positioned exactly between the current MotoGP race lap record and the fastest ever lap recorded at the Red Bull Ring. It was a lot wetter for the second practice session. Emerging as a rain expert at Spielberg was Italian Lorenzo Savadori of Aprilia.
Just like the Spielberg dominators of recent years from Ducati, KTM made a modest start to the first free practice sessions of the Styrian GP. Miguel Oliveira of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing also got caught out by Turn 3. After a highside, he had to sit out the second free practice session due to pain. Initial examinations suggest the Portuguese rider has not suffered a serious injury, thankfully.
Away from the racing circuit, the atmosphere was building at the Spielberg MotoGP Bike City as the spectators were treated to the first FMX and motorcycle stunt shows.
Fans have one last chance in 2021 to see Valentino Rossi in MotoGP action in Austria!
Day tickets for the Styria GP can be purchased by fans at the circuit’s ticket points from 8:00 CET every day until Sunday.
Entertainment before, during and after the training and qualifying sessions on Saturday will be provided by DJ Acts at the Spielberg MotoGP Bike City. The party around the Austrian racing circuit will continue on race day, Sunday, of course! When the world championship riders take a brief break, motorcycle stunt riders and the Red Bull Freestyle Motocross artists will perform in front of the Red Bull Grandstand.
