The first fans at the Grand Prix weekend got to enjoy some thrilling sessions on Friday. Providing the racing action along with the top class in motorsport was the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as well as the W Series with exclusively female drivers.
PERFECT START FOR VERSTAPPEN IN 2021 SPIELBERG DOUBLE
Clearly setting the tone on the opening day of the first of two Grands Prix at Spielberg in 2021 was Max Verstappen in the RB16b of his Austrian racing team. The Dutchman posted the best time in both free practice sessions on Friday at the Red Bull Ring.
“Our car looks perfect,” was the summary of Red Bull Motorsport adviser Dr Helmut Marko after the first free practice. There isn’t much that needs to be added to that, apart from the fact that the flying Dutchman left the rest of the field well behind him again in the second session. He set the best time of the day with 1:05.412 minutes.
There will be plenty of discussion among the teams before qualifying on Saturday about numerous track limits shortly before the start/finish straight as well as some spins into the gravel. Curves 9 and 10, in particular, caused the drivers problems and ruined numerous lap times.
Everything looks set up for a spectacular Styrian Grand Prix.
